South Devon Vehicle Installations, part of the Motorquip Group.
We supply and fit equipment for commercial vehicles in Newton Abbot, serving businesses across Devon. Whether you use one van or run several vehicles, we can bring the electrical work, security, visibility and practical fittings together in one discussion.
Start with the job the vehicle needs to do: charging tools between visits, powering equipment while parked, protecting the load area, reversing into tight spaces or working in poor light. We specify the equipment around the vehicle and intended use, rather than assume every business needs the same package.

Power where the work happens.
Battery storage, inverter power and charging planned together.
A dedicated leisure or lithium battery can supply working equipment without treating the vehicle’s starter battery as a power bank. We assess the load, available installation space, how long you work while parked and how the battery will recharge.
An inverter can provide 230V power for suitable tools, chargers or other equipment. Tell us each item’s model, wattage and whether several run at once. Continuous load, starting demand, battery discharge capability and runtime all need checking; a socket alone is not a promise that every power tool will work.
DC-to-DC charging uses suitable alternator power while driving. We also discuss mains charging and solar where they fit the job. Short journeys may not replace a full day’s energy use, so storage and charging need to be considered as one system.
Workman: a small-system starting point
Our camper/work-van range includes a 100Ah AGM battery, 30A DC-DC and 500VA inverter from £1,075 for an empty-van installation. It is for modest loads; larger systems need a specific assessment.
Combine the right layers of protection for your work.
Additional door locks
Deadlocks, slamlocks and appropriate van-lock options can add security to load-area doors. Door selection, number of locks and the vehicle’s daily access pattern determine the specification.
We supply and fit vehicle-tracking options. Product features, subscription, installation and any insurer requirements are confirmed for the chosen system.
We can discuss compatible alarms, detection and immobilisation for the cab and vehicle. An electronic system and a mechanical door lock serve different purposes.
Front or front-and-rear recording can help document incidents and journeys. Camera view, rear-door arrangements, installation and parking-mode power need to suit the van.
Tell us whether the van is opened many times a day, left parked on site, used by more than one driver or stored overnight with equipment inside. We will work through practical access and operation alongside the security choices. No single device makes a vehicle theft-proof.

See more around a working vehicle.
Reversing cameras and parking sensors for everyday manoeuvres.
A load area, bulkhead, high roof or long body can limit what you see behind a van. We can discuss universal reversing-camera arrangements and vehicle-specific options, with a suitable separate monitor or a compatible existing screen.
Camera mounting, the view required, rear-door movement and cable routing matter. We check how the picture will be displayed and whether the vehicle’s existing stereo or infotainment equipment supports the proposed integration.
Parking sensors provide a different kind of assistance, warning about objects in the areas they cover. The number, position, finish and available display or audible options depend on the kit and vehicle.
Tell us about rear steps, towbars, racks, trailers or other accessories before fitting. They can affect camera positioning or sensor behaviour. Cameras and sensors assist the driver; visibility and clearance still need to be checked.
Additional lighting can help illuminate loading or working areas. We discuss where the light is needed, mounting positions, switching and the electrical supply.
We supply lighting options including Lazer products. Fitment and intended use are checked for the vehicle; work lights are not automatically suitable as road-driving lights.
Practical fitting alongside the electrical installation.
Lining and shelving
We can discuss ply lining, practical load-area preparation and shelving for suitable commercial vehicles. Tell us what you carry and where equipment needs to stay accessible.
Suitable diesel-heater installations can improve comfort in vehicles used for work as well as leisure. Position, insulation, ducting, fuel and electrical requirements are assessed before fitting.
Plan fixed equipment and electrical access together. Batteries, inverter cooling, isolators, fuse protection and sockets should remain accessible once lining and shelving are installed. For a conversion in stages, tell us what will be fitted later so we can discuss the layout now.

Better equipped between jobs.
Connectivity, sound and towing from the same team.
Car Stereo, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
Replacement head units and compatible original-system interfaces for navigation, music, calls and supported apps. We check the vehicle’s existing system and which functions can be retained.
Fixed or detachable options, with the towbar design and dedicated or universal electrics selected for the vehicle and intended trailer. Tell us about steps, accessories and required lighting or power circuits.
A real installation by South Devon Vehicle Installations.
This completed Nissan fleet installation combined a 230Ah Fogstar lithium battery, a Victron 1200VA inverter, a 50A DC-DC charger and rear 230V sockets. It shows how a dedicated system can put useful power where equipment is used.
The installation is an example, not a standard specification or guaranteed runtime for every business. We assess the intended equipment, charging opportunities and vehicle before recommending a system.
Send the registration or vehicle details, the number of vehicles and the work you need. For power systems, include the equipment you want to run and normal driving or parking pattern. For fleets, tell us where vehicle specifications differ so suitable parts and fitting requirements can be checked.
We discuss the equipment, installation access and quote before booking. If you need several services, mention them together so we can consider cable routes, mounting positions and the order of work.
Can you work on an existing fit-out?+
Yes, subject to checking the equipment, mounting, access and wiring. We explain what can be retained and what needs adapting.
Can you combine security, cameras and power?+
Yes. Tell us all the work you are considering so the installation can be planned together, subject to the vehicle and compatible equipment.
Will an inverter run my tools?+
It depends on each tool or charger, start-up demand, simultaneous loads and battery capability. Send the models and ratings so we can assess the full system.
Do all fleet vehicles need the same equipment?+
Not necessarily. Vehicle specifications and driver use can vary. Tell us which functions you want consistent and where individual vehicles have different requirements.
