At Motorquip in Newton Abbot, we don’t just design systems — we build complete, working camper van and motorhome electrical setups tailored to each customer. From compact day vans to full off-grid expedition vehicles, every installation is planned, built, and tested in our workshop to the highest professional standard.

Over the past few years, we’ve completed a wide variety of camper electrical builds, including:

Recent Camper Van & Motorhome Electrical Projects

Every camper is different, and at Motorquip, we design and install each electrical system to match the customer’s exact needs — from full off-grid power systems to compact weekend conversions. Here are a few examples of our recent work completed at our Newton Abbot workshop:

Motorhome – Victron MultiPlus & Lithium Upgrade

For this motorhome, we installed a Victron 2kVA MultiPlus inverter/charger, giving the customer the ability to run medium to high-power 240V appliances off-grid including items such as an air fryer or coffee machine.

To support the increased power demand, we upgraded the system to a Fogstar lithium battery, providing greater capacity, faster charging, and longer-lasting performance. The DC-to-DC charger was also replaced with a new high-output model, now charging at up to 50A per hour while the engine is running.

Finally, we fitted a lithium-compatible solar charge controller to ensure safe and efficient charging from the existing solar array completing a fully integrated, modern electrical upgrade built for reliable off-grid performance.

Self-Build Camper Van – Complete Electrical System Installation

We supported this customer throughout their self-build camper van project, supplying and professionally installing the full electrical system and core components, while the customer built the rest of the van around our setup.

The installation included a Victron 2kVA MultiPlus inverter/charger, 30A DC-to-DC charger, Victron SmartSolar 200/30 MPPT controller, Fogstar lithium battery, and full power distribution via a 240V consumer unit, 12V fuse box, and mega fuse box.

We also fitted a main battery isolator, solar DC isolator, and a 280W roof-mounted solar panel, all integrated with a shore Power hook-up system for safe connection to campsite mains when needed.

This build provided a fully off-grid capable electrical foundation neat, efficient, and designed to safely power the customer’s entire conversion for years to come.

Compact Camper Van – Full Electrical System in Limited Space

This compact camper build required a clever use of space to deliver full off-grid capability in a small vehicle. Our team designed and installed a complete electrical system using compact, high-performance Victron components.

The installation included a Victron 1600VA Compact MultiPlus inverter/charger, Victron SmartSolar 100/30 MPPT controller, and a Victron 30A DC-to-DC charger for efficient charging while driving. We also fitted a 240V consumer unit, 12V distribution and fuse boxes, and a main battery isolator all neatly arranged to maximise available storage space while keeping everything accessible and serviceable.

Despite the limited space, this installation delivers powerful and reliable off-grid functionality perfect for a compact camper that doesn’t compromise on comfort or capability.

Motorhome – Full Off-Grid Electrical Upgrade for Extended Travel

This customer wanted their newly purchased motorhome to be fully self-sufficient and capable of travelling off-grid for long periods especially under the sun of southern Spain.

To achieve this, we installed a powerful Victron 3000VA MultiPlus inverter/charger, allowing the customer to run any 240V appliance off-grid with ease. The power system was supported by two 300Ah Fogstar lithium batteries, providing a huge energy reserve for extended use.

We also upgraded the roof-mounted solar system with a Victron SmartSolar MPPT controller, paired with the correct DC isolator for safety and compliance, and replaced the DC-to-DC charger with a 50A Victron Orion unit for faster charging while driving.

All components were carefully installed out of sight, maximising living space while keeping the system clean, quiet, and easy to maintain ready for true off-grid living anywhere in Europe.

Camper Van – Full Off-Grid Electrical & Heating System

This couple came to us for the complete electrical and comfort package in their camper van build including hot and cold running water, diesel heating, and full off-grid power.

We installed a Fogstar Drift Pro 628Ah lithium battery, providing an exceptional amount of storage capacity for extended off-grid living. The system also features a Truma 4DE diesel and electric heater/boiler for both air and water heating, a Victron 2kVA MultiPlus inverter/charger, and a Victron 30A DC-to-DC charger for efficient charging while driving.

Solar generation is handled by a roof-mounted array paired with a Victron SmartSolar 100/20 MPPT controller, while monitoring and control are managed through a Victron Cerbo GX interface and touchscreen display for complete visibility of power usage, charging, and system performance.

A true full-works installation, professionally integrated to deliver complete independence, comfort, and reliability wherever their adventures take them.

Camper Van – Compact Electrical System with Heating & Hot Water

This customer wanted a simple yet capable off-grid system to power heating, hot water, and essential 12V accessories while travelling.

We supplied and installed a Truma 6DE diesel and electric boiler, providing both hot water and interior heating without the need for gas.

Power is managed through a Victron solar panel paired with a Victron SmartSolar MPPT controller, ensuring efficient charging from sunlight.

To keep the system topped up on the move, we fitted a Victron 30A DC-to-DC charger and a Victron 12V mains charger, all connected to a high-quality AGM leisure battery with full fuse protection, cable management, and isolators.

A neat, space-efficient installation that provides all the essentials heat, hot water, and reliable off-grid power without unnecessary complexity.

Motorhome – Lithium Battery Upgrade for Electric Bed System

This returning customer needed greater battery capacity to reliably power their electric lifting bed and other onboard systems while off-grid. The ideal solution was a lithium upgrade.

We installed two 100Ah lithium batteries, providing higher usable capacity and faster charging compared to the previous setup. To support the upgrade, we fitted a Victron 12V mains charger, a Victron 30A DC-to-DC charger, and a Victron SmartShunt for real-time battery monitoring and performance tracking.

The installation also included all necessary fuses, cabling, isolators, and cable management, ensuring a clean, safe, and serviceable electrical system.

This upgrade delivered a major boost in off-grid capability and reliability perfectly suited to the customer’s existing electrical setup.

Nissan Van – Lithium & Inverter Upgrade for Fleet Use

As part of an ongoing fleet conversion programme, we upgraded this Nissan van with a modern lithium and inverter system to support off-grid power requirements.

The installation included a 230Ah Fogstar lithium battery, a Victron 1200VA pure sine wave inverter, and a Victron 50A DC-to-DC charger to ensure fast and efficient charging while driving.

We also fitted 230V sockets in the rear to provide convenient access to mains power for tools and accessories. The result is a robust, reliable electrical setup ideal for both commercial and leisure use consistent with the high-quality systems we’ve supplied across this customer’s fleet.

Mercedes Sprinter Self-Build – Full Off-Grid Electrical & Heating System

This customer’s self-build Mercedes Sprinter camper van was designed for full off-grid independence, complete with power, heating, and hot and cold running water. Although we didn’t capture many photos, this installation involved a comprehensive and highly capable setup.

The system featured 2 × 230Ah Fogstar lithium batteries paired with 400W of Victron solar panels, managed through a Victron SmartSolar MPPT controller and DC isolator for safety and efficiency. A powerful Victron 3000VA MultiPlus inverter/charger provided seamless 230V off-grid power and on-grid charging capability.

For control and monitoring, we fitted a Victron Cerbo GX with touchscreen display, along with a Victron 50A DC-to-DC charger, Victron SmartShunt, and Victron Lynx distribution system for neat and reliable power management.

The installation also included a 12-way DC fuse box with a Victron BatteryProtect, a 240V consumer unit with external hook-up, and a Truma 6DE diesel and electric boiler/heater for complete comfort on the road.

A full, high-spec system built to deliver long-term reliability, power, and convenience perfectly integrated into this impressive self-build project.
